Background

Amy is an Australian emerging artist, born and raised in Queensland.  And while deep down, Queensland will always feel like home, she has now spent slightly more than half her life living in Sydney (and briefly London).  She is currently respectfully living and creating on Cammeraygal Land.

Amy had an early career in Human Resources and then was busy for many years (and still is) raising three boys. She has always had a desire to create and over the years has dabbled in screen printing, water colours, photography and crochet as well as painting in acrylics.

“Breast cancer in 2019 was a bit of a wake-up call for me and prompted a decision to listen to this inner voice that was getting louder and more insistent telling me to ‘just paint’.  I began painting more consistently and have been relishing discovering my artistic voice ever since”.

“The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power or time”

Artist Statement

My artworks are a fusion of diverse techniques, elements and mediums. I love to combine spontaneous mark making with more controlled painting in areas of negative space. I particularly love allowing the paint to do its thing and often incorporate drips, splatters and areas where the colours swirl and combine themselves in a more random, less controlled fashion.  I love to work in layers; hiding a lot but also allowing some of the hidden layers to come through.  I love these little glimpses of the worlds underneath.

Through abstraction, and the use of vibrant colours, I aim to convey a feeling, mood or memory and particularly, to enable the viewer to become a participant in the creative experience.

Art As Therapy

I believe that everyone has creativity built into them and it’s just a matter of tapping into it.  I also passionately believe in the healing power of accessing that creativity.

There are so many overlaps between a mindfulness practice and an artistic practice and I really believe that creating art can be very therapeutic.

In the future I hope to add some art classes or 1:1 art as therapy sessions to my offering. If you would be interested in hearing about any plans for the future, please let me know and also sign up on my email list.
